Iowa City West High School Sophomore Blake Manternach was recently featured on the ensemble’s spring concert on Bein’ Green.
Congratulations to Brian Crew who won a position in the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band. This paid municipal band has been in existence for several decades. The group plays two concerts weekly in various parks throughout the Cedar Rapids area.
Donald Duck in “Trombone Trouble”
Iowa trombone alumni, Austin Peiffer, advanced to the semi-final round of the Southeast Trombone Symposium competition sponsored by Shires. Congratulations, Austin, and good luck in the next round!
Austin recently accepted a Graduate Assistantship to the University of Utah where he will study with Dr. Donn Schaefer.
Dutch composer, Steven Verhelst, has written a new trombone quartet honoring those who suffered in the recent tsunami in Japan. The work was premiered at the recent Slide Factory. Download the free quartet here.
Brian Crew was awarded “Best in Center” at Iowa’s 2011 Solo and Ensemble competition for both the solo and ensemble category. Brian performed Arthur Pryor’s Blue Bells of Scotland and Charles Small’s Conversations. He will perform both at the winner’s recital next month.

Justin Gingerich has accepted a scholarship offer to attend the University of Iowa.
